Reflecting on the Texas Floods: A Call to Protect People, Property, and our Environment
The devastation in Texas over the weekend hits close to home. Our hearts are with those who have lost loved ones, are still searching, and the first responders working around the clock.
Tragedies like these are powerful reminders of why the work we do as stormwater professionals matters.
The MHFD team is grateful for the value and support our region has placed on protecting people, property, and our environment. This support enables us to work in partnership and enhance the services provided by the National Weather Service (NWS) and our local governments.
The Guadalupe River rose more than 20 feet in two hours in the middle of the night. Few emergency plans can compete with this kind of scenario. Learning from Kerr County, MHFD aims to support our local governments in identifying areas of highest risk and explore where additional infrastructure and partnerships are needed.
These events are a sobering reminder that the impacts of flooding can be swift and devastating. But they also reinforce the importance of our continued efforts. MHFD’s mission and vision, to protect people, property, and our environment, remains as vital as ever.
